Film Score Fest will once again be offering six $500 scholarships to support Black, Indigenous, and People of Color who will participate in our 2026-27 St. Paul festival. Three scholarships will be awarded to filmmakers, and three will be awarded to composers/music-makers.
Applications are due by Friday, October 30. It will be an easy-to-apply process, with just a few questions about your creative work and what you might make for the festival.
Scholarship Eligiblity
You can be considered for the scholarship if all of the following apply to you:
- You are a filmmaker, composer, or music-maker. All experience levels are welcome, as well as all forms of filmmaking (narrative, documentary, animation, experimental, etc.) and music-making (orchestral, folk, electronic, jazz, experimental, traditional, etc.).
- You identify as Black, Indigenous, or Person of Color (BIPOC).
- You are a Minnesota resident.
- You plan to participate in Film Score Fest 2026-27 by making a 5-minute-or-less film and collaborating with a composer/music maker (either your choice or randomly assigned). Film Score Fest participation guidelines.
Scholarship Details
Application deadline: Friday, October 30, 2026 by 11:59pm
Amount: $500 scholarship. $250 upfront / $250 upon completion of your film.
Number of scholarships available: 3 for filmmakers, 3 for composers/music-makers
Application fee: Free
After applying for this scholarship, we will encourage you to sign up to participate in Film Score Fest, so even if you don’t receive the scholarship, you can be paired with a composer and participate for free in the festival challenge.
